Gypsum plaster
In gypsum-based products, cellulose ethers are essential for optimizing both processing and final performance. They function primarily as exceptional water retention agents, which is critical for ensuring the adequate hydration of gypsum, particularly when applied to porous backgrounds where water loss would otherwise impair strength development. By thickening the mix, they provide the necessary rheology to prevent sagging in plaster applications and ensure uniform consistency in joint compounds. Furthermore, cellulose ethers significantly enhance workability by imparting a smooth, creamy texture that facilitates easy mixing and application, while also extending the open time for adjustments. This combination of water retention, sag resistance, and improved plasticity makes them indispensable in products such as gypsum plasters, joint fillers, and casting compounds.
